RIETVELD CHAIR

DATE: MAY 2022
MATERIAL: MAPLE, WALNUT AND CHERRY WOOD

I made this chair for the final test of my training as a Spatial Designer. I am a big believer in challenging yourself with regard to new and different techniques and methods. This chair is a good example of that.

Wood joints with different angles that all connect to each other. Redesigned several times to make the design possible. Made with a combination of machine and hand tools.

The design is based on Gerrit Rietveld: Spatiality, simplicity and abstraction are paramount. With angled lines instead of horizontal and vertical lines to give it my own twist. The different types of wood are a play on the color planes of De Stijl.
